How It Works

A good filter should turn over the entire tank volume 4-10 times per hour. Heavily stocked tanks need higher turnover. Filter media creates resistance that reduces actual flow, so buy 20-25% more GPH than the minimum. Planted tanks can use slightly lower flow since plants help filter the water.
